The Fibonacci Spiral Quilt

This pattern is an original quilt design inspired by mathematics. Fibonacci is the name given to Italian mathematician Leonardo Pisano Bogollo (1170-1250). The Fibonacci sequence is formed by adding the previous two numbers together to get the next number in the series - 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc. When found in a spiral, it is also called the Golden Ratio spiral. You can see this reflected in the layout of each block and the way the design spirals out from the centre. The Fibonacci sequence describes numerous natural phenomena including the geometry of nautilus shells and spiral galaxies, as well as the growth patterns of pinecones and many types of plants and flowers.
